OVERVIEW
AbraLUBE is a nontoxic, environmentally friendly lubricant
that can be applied to a variety of materials without causing
contamination or discoloration. It can be used on plastic,
wood, rubber, metals such as brass, bronze, aluminum, steel,
stainless steel and titanium. AbraLUBE is also an excellent
lubricant when milling, drilling, tapping, circular sawing
and band sawing. |

PROPERTIES
AbraLUBE functions as a lubricant with extreme pressure properties.
The lubricant attaches to the surface of the coated abrasive
via two mechanisms, adsorption and chemisorption, forming
a monomolecular layer. This layer reduces the surface energy;
the greater the reduction in the surface energy the greater
is the stability of the adsorbed film. The actual protection
against wear is believed tobe due to the ability of this adsorbed
film to withstand the local contact pressures between the
abrasive and the metal part. The film shears readily with
low frictional resistance during the polishing process.
Reduction of friction translates into lower heat generation
at the point of contact between the abrasive and the part.
This reduction of heat prevents the breakdown of the resin
boning the abrasive to the belt. Also much less force us required
to polish the part. Abrasive belts which have developed a
metal coating will continue to cust as long as AbraLUBE is
applied. In fact, belts that have stopped cutting because
they have become loaded with metal will cut normally after
AbraLUBE has been applied.
AbraLUBE is noncorrosive to the metal parts that are polished.
AbraLUBE has tarnish inhibiting properties for brass applications.
Also, AbraLUBE does not interfere with subsequent buffing,
plating, coating, and anodizing processes.

APPLICATION
The
method of application and the amount of AbraLUBE applied is
very important in order to maximize belt life. For testing purposes
a manual spray bottle applicator can be used.
Extremely small quantites of AbraLUBE are required. It is not
necessary and counter productive to saturate the belt or the
part with AbraLUBE. AbraLUBE does not have to be applied to
the belt every time a part is being polished. Most successful
tests only required one spray of approximately 2 grams every
15 to 20 minutes.
For most manual abrasive belt polishing operations a simple
hand held spray bottle applicator can be used. For precise application
with a limited amount of waste due to over spray, we recommend
using a low pressure spray gun. the spray should cover the full
width of the belt.
We recommend using a foot pedal swtich so the operator can actuate
the spray as needed. The spray gun normally mounted on the bottome
of the hood at a position where the belt is traveling away from
the operator.
For robotic installations the applicaiton of AbraLUBE can be
controlled by the robotic controller. AbraLUBE is ideal for
robotic polishing operations since it can significantly increase
the working time between belt changes. It is not unusual for
the working time of the belt to increase from one hour to four
to five hours with the application of AbraLUBE.
